Translation
Since 1984, we have specialised in the
translation of technical documents between English and
French, mainly in the fields of nuclear engineering and
radiation protection.
Some of the many thousand documents we have translated from
French to English include:
- le Mémento de
la Sûreté Nucléaire en
Exploitation an EDF nuclear safety handbook
- the OSART Handbooks for Saint Alban, Gravelines,
Flamanville and Cattenom Nuclear Power Plants for EDF
(full descriptions of all aspects of these French
nuclear power plants for peer review visits, the work
including typesetting and printing)
- The Goguel Report for the French institute for nuclear
safety and radiation protection (IRSN), an official
report on the disposal of nuclear waste in deep
geological formations for establishing French government
policy
- le rapport Radioécologie Nord Cotentin
for the IRSN, an in-depth study to establish the
radiological impact of the Cap de la Hague nuclear waste
reprocessing plant on the local environment, issued
after a two-year field study
- the EDF Inspector General's nuclear safety and
radiation protection reports
for the years 1995 to 2010,
- the training CD la
Vie d'Electra, an excellent in-depth nuclear
power plant staff learning resource by Yves Chelet
(including voice-over).
In addition to translation itself, we also
provide the following associated services:
- Organising your translation project: planning,
scheduling, budgeting and translator selection
- Finding cost-effective translation service providers,
tendering and bid assessment
- Evaluating translators and translations
- In-house translation process auditing
We believe that what has given us the edge in the
highly competitive world of high-tech translation is
that we have always treated the terminology issue in
depth. We have invested heavily in managing terminology
and are now in a position to provide technical
assistance in this field.
Terminology
With the right terminology, even a poor
translator can do worthwhile job. And with the wrong
terminology, even the best translator cannot do a good
one.
Are you certain that the foreign-language
equivalents you use for the words of your profession are
the correct ones?
Raven International has developed
sophisticated techniques for making terminology audits.
Taking professional documents that have already been
translated, we can directly extract the terminology in a
pragmatic way. This enables us to establish the status quo, and can
be extremely revealing.
We propose to establish a situation in
which you will be able to properly manage the vital
terminology specific to your business yourself, using the
Open
Terminology Forum as a platform.
